Ed Koch Bridge ramp claims second victim

For the second time in nine days, a car jumped off the ramp of the Ed Koch (Queensboro Bridge), crashing into the Villa de Beaute hair salon in Long Island City.

And for the second time, the crash claimed a victim.

Police say that the unidentified 39-year-old male driver lost control of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta he was driving on the outer roadway (lower level) on Wednesday, April 6 at about 4 a.m. According to reports, he lost an arm and was taken to Bellevue Hospital. His female passenger, 40, reportedly suffered a severe head injury and was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center.

The female passenger, Beatriz Rodriguez, died Wednesday night, according to the New York Post.

The driver was arrested and police say charges are pending.

It was on March 28 that a 68-year-old man was also killed in a similar accident.

Anthony Buscemi was pronounced dead on the scene when a 2007 Volkswagen landed in front of the Villa de Beauté hair.

The driver, a 35-year-old man, was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, though reports claim he may have lost an arm. The car’s passenger, a 31-year-old woman, was taken to Cornell Hospital.
