A major roadway in the industrial heart of Maspeth will be closed for two weeks during the ongoing construction of the new Kosciuszko Bridge.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that both directions of 56th Road, between Laurel Hill Boulevard and 43rd Street, will be closed to traffic from Monday, Aug. 8, through Friday, Aug. 12, and again on Monday, Aug. 15, through Wednesday, Aug. 17. Expect the closures between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. if the weather permits.

Parking will also be restricted on 43rd Street between 56th Road and 54th Road, as well as on 56th Road and Laurel Hill Boulevard.

The street will need to be closed down for placement of concrete on the new bridge deck, NYSDOT said.

There will be variable message signs and traffic enforcement agents assigned to the area to keep traffic flowing during the operation.

NYSDOT has provided detours in both directions for motorists:

  • Cars traveling westbound on 56th Road should turn right onto 43rd Street, left onto 54th Road and left on to Laurel Hill Boulevard to 56th Road.
  • Cars traveling eastbound on 56th Road should turn left onto Laurel Hill Boulevard, right onto 54th Road and right onto 43rd Street to 56th Road.

Any questions or concerns regarding this temporary closure or the Kosciuszko Bridge project can be directed to the project’s community liaison, Christine Holowacz, at 347-988-4412 or at [email protected].
