For their continued effort to bring noise and air pollution reduction measures along freight rail lines in Queens, the Civics United for Railroad and Environmental Solutions (CURES) received a Quality Service Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 during a ceremony in lower Manhattan on Apr. 27. Nominated for the award by Rep. Bob Turner, CURES was recognized for making “strides in environmental improvements” along rail lines in western Queens and “making certain that rail yards are free of hazards and threats to neighborhood health and safety.” Accepting the award were CURES co-chairs Mary Arnold (second from left) and Mary Parisen (second from right).
