Mixing it up in Astoria

The Astoria community welcomed its newest addition to its food culture. Mix Café and Lounge, a “Welcome All” establishment, has merged with Zuzies Restaurant to bring the best of both worlds to their clients, an eatery with a unique menu, a bar and live entertainment.

The opening on Saturday, August 7, which was standing room only by 8 p.m., was led by Michael Serao, vice president of the Astoria Civic Association and board member of Community Board 1.

“This establishment will bring a safe and secure environment to our LGBT community,” Serao said. “Their staff is friendly, welcoming and the entertainment is amazing.”

General manager Michael Madrid ensures that “Every customer feels welcome. Mix welcomes not only the LGBT community, but on the weekends you will find families enjoying brunch with the live entertainment.”

From Monday through Saturday, Mix hosts different events such as karaoke, open mic and Bingo. On Sunday, you will see a packed house as Mix and Zuzies serve an amazing brunch menu hosted by local celebrities Sunday Morning Mimosas, who recently took home the award for “best performance” at the Heritage of Pride celebration.

Owners Min Chen and Susan Burdian are thrilled with the community support and welcome they have received; they invite all community members to stop by and visit the establishment.
