Robert Joseph Simpson

ROBERT JOSEPH SIMPSON died on Tuesday, August 28, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn. at the age of 89. Simpson was born on Sterling Place in Brooklyn in 1923. He was educated in NYC public schools, and after graduating high school he worked for Sperry Gyroscope Company of Long Island. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served as a sergeant in a forward reconnaissance unit during the Battle of the Bulge of World War II.

In 1948, Simpson joined the United States Post Office and worked in Ridgewood, Queens until 1973. He then worked at the Hamburg Savings Bank until 1983. Simpson was the lead usher at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Forest Hills for years after his retirement and enjoyed the friendship and activities of the Forest Hills Men’s Club during this time as well.

Simpson is survived by his son Robert and daughters Patricia, Marylisa and Shauna of Connecticut.

A wake was held on Thursday, August 30 at the Fox Funeral Home, 98-07 Ascan Ave., Forest Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Friday, August 31, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Forest Hills, followed by a military burial at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I.
