Crowley joins Ways & Means Committee

When the Democrats take control of Congress next month, Queens will have a representative on the powerful Ways and Means Committee as officials have announced that Congressmember Joseph Crowley would serve on the influential committee.
Manhattan Congressmember Charles Rangel will chair the committee, which plays a pivotal role overseeing revenue related to issues such as tariffs and trade agreements as well as Social Security and Medicare, giving New York City two representatives on the influential committee.
The committee, which was established in 1789, is the only committee responsible in both the House and the Senate for tax and revenue measures.
&#8220I embrace this wonderful opportunity to serve on this key committee as a move that will greatly benefit my district and improve the quality of life for my constituents,” Crowley said. &#8220I will take advantage of my position to expand health care coverage, protect Social Security and promote job growth.”
Rangel was very influential in helping select Crowley for the committee, and he believes that Crowley will be an asset to the committee.
&#8220The 110th Congress presents us with an opportunity to move past the gridlock that has ensnared Washington, D.C. for too long, and I know Joe will stand beside me to work for progress on the issues facing this great nation,” Rangel said.
Crowley, who currently serves as the Chief Deputy Whip in Congress as well as the recently elected chair of the Queens County Democratic Organization is looking forward to the opportunity to serve on the Ways and Means Committee.
&#8220I will also work to reform our tax policy and uplift our economy through better-negotiated trade deals that will create more jobs and better employment opportunities in the New York area,” Crowley said.
