Quick arraignment in Queens Village robbery

Last week, a 25-year-old New Hyde Park resident was charged with the gunpoint robbery of a Queens Village pharmacy which resulted in the theft of more than 2,100 tablets of prescribed narcotics - including OxyContin and Percocet.
Oscar Cruz, of 130 Hillside Boulevard in New Hyde Park, was arraigned before Queens Criminal Court Judge Robert Raciti on a five-count complaint charging him with one count of first-degree robbery, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Judge Raciti set bail at $50,000 and ordered a return date of December 3.
Cruz entered the Economy Drugs and Surgical pharmacy, located at 221-21 Jamaica Avenue, on the morning of Saturday, November 17, wearing a mask and approached a store employee. Cruz then allegedly brandished a black handgun and demanded narcotics while handing the 33-year-old employee a duffle bag to fill up. It is alleged that once the employee filled the duffle bag with several bottles of narcotics, Cruz fled the premises in a silver Toyota RAV4, which an eyewitness had observed and noted the license plate number.
The car was allegedly spotted later that day in New Hyde Park in front of 130 Hillside Boulevard, with Cruz exiting the residence.
In searching the bedroom at the residence, Nassau County Police detectives recovered a white plastic bottle containing 49 OxyContin pills, two plastic bottles containing a total of 1,137 Phenobarbital pills and a clear ziplock bag containing 1,011 Percocet pills. Also allegedly recovered from under the mattress in the bedroom was a loaded black handgun containing seven cartridges.
