Family Day at QBG

According to the city’s official groundhog, Staten Island Chuck, spring is almost here and Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) is getting ready.
They’re inviting area families to participate in Family Day on Saturday, February 28, from 2 to 4 p.m.
This special program will, among other things, provide them with a sneak peek at the Garden’s Children’s Garden Program, sponsored by HSBC Bank USA, which is now gearing up for its spring session.
The first “green” camp in Queens, the Children’s Garden Program is targeted for children ages 5- to 12-years-old and offers kids the opportunity to practice different sustainable gardening techniques, such as composting and mulching. They also learn about the reuse and recycling of materials.
During the Family Day participants can “have fun with plants by creating their very own soil plantings and ‘beanariums’ to take home,” said spokesperson Tara Rogers.
In addition to learn about the program through a presentation about past sessions, “experience touch and smell stations featuring various plants,” explore the QBG greenhouse and participate in games activities and more, according to Rogers
Parents can contact Children’s Garden Coordinator Rebecca Wolf at 718-886-3800, Ext. 229 or e-mail her at rwolf@queensbotanical.org for more information about the HSBC Family Day and the HSBC Children’s Garden Program.
“QBG is so thankful to HSBC for the support they have provided our one-of-a-kind Children’s Garden program throughout the years,” said Executive Director Susan Lacerte.
“Now more than ever, families need affordable, educational programs for their children, Lacerte said. “The Children’s Garden Program teaches children important lessons that will help sustain them throughout their lives,” she added.
“We’re thrilled to hold our first HSBC Family Day to inform local families of the fun experiences available to them at QBG,” Lacerte said.
