When community group Friends of Cunningham Park secured a freight container to use as secure storage for bicycles, it didn’t look like it belonged. That is, until John Tochterman and his crew arrived.
Tochterman manages the Dime Savings Bank Hillcrest Branch at 176-47 Union Turnpike in Flushing, not far from the park. He and his colleagues got into action on Monday, July 12 – and a little while later, the freshly-painted container was a proud addition to the park.
“Every single one of them is a true friend,” said the non-profit Friends president Marc Haken. “Without such volunteers, the 25 different projects we have would never get done.”
