Bill Gianakos, Executive Vice President NYC Region DeNovo Area Director of Citibank

Bill Gianakos has worked in the financial services industry for 37 years. He began his career with The New York Bank for Savings, which at the time was the largest thrift in theU.S.His career at NYBFS spanned more than 14 years, beginning as a management trainee in the branches and working in a myriad of leadership capacities over the years.

 Bill joined Citibank in 1988 as the Sales Director for the National Telesales business in Tarrytown. He spent five years building a world-class telephone sales operation, which years later was folded into the San Antonio Direct Bank operation. His next appointment was as Branch Manager inForest Hillsfollowed by two years as the Queens Area Sales Director supporting 24 branches. In 1999, Bill became Sales Director for Greater Manhattan. In June of 1999 he was asked to take on the Branch Manager role for World Headquarters branch at 399 Park. Shortly thereafter, Bill was appointed to Area Director for Midtown Manhattan.

In January of 2001, Bill returned to Queens as Area Director for East Queens where he had the opportunity to successfully lead 14 branches. In October 2004, Bill took on the Region Sales Manager role for North Manhattan and Queens. In January 2008, Bill was appointed to the Area Director position for the Bronx where he was responsible for 14 branches. Bill has been honored with the prestigious National Citistars award for top performers four times. 

In May of 2011, Bill was asked to head up the NYC DeNovo branch expansion initiative. In this role Bill is responsible for identifying sites in Manhattan and the Outer Boroughs for building new branches, hiring the branch teams and leading these branches toward achieving long term growth targets. He will be opening two new branches in Queens in early 2012.

 Bill has been married 37 years, and has two children, two grandchildren and one on the way. He has lived in Queens his entire life, the last 31 years in Auburndale. Through the years Bill has been active in the community, coaching and directing youth sports programs. He has served on the board of trustees for the Leukemia Society and most recently served as the Board President and Chairman forJamaicaCenterfor Arts & Learning.
