The National Rifle Association announced their plans to prevent another school massacre: armed guards at every school.

The NRA made the announcement at a press conference a week after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

With President Barack Obama appointing Vice President Joe Biden to a task force with the aim to end gun violence, the NRA tasked former Congressmember Asa Hutchison to head a national effort to create a “model shield program” for all schools.

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” NRA’s CEO Wayne LaPierre said.

The press conference was twice interrupted by protesters saying the NRA had blood on its hands for the mass shootings around the country before being escorted away by security.

For four days after the tragedy in Newtown the NRA remained silent before releasing a statement on the shooting.

“Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting,” the group said in a statement. “The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.”

Mayor Michael Bloomberg called the NRA’s remarks a “shameful evasion of the crisis facing our country.”

“Instead of offering solutions to a problem they have helped create, they offered a paranoid, dystopian vision of a more dangerous and violent America where everyone is armed and no place is safe,” Bloomberg said in a statement.
