A garage fire in South Richmond Hill left one person dead, said police.

Around 1:00 a.m. Saturday, authorities responded to a blaze at a vacant resident at 103-41 120th Street, where a detached garage in the rear of the residence was on fire.

After extinguishing the flames, they discovered an unidentified body inside with severe burns. EMS responded and the victim was pronounced dead.

Officials are still determining the cause of death and what started the fire.
