The suspect in the deadly shooting of 14-year-old D’aja Robinson in May has been taken into custody in South Carolina.

Updated Wednesday, June 5

The suspect in the deadly shooting of a 14-year-old aboard a Queens bus last month has been arrested.

Kevin McClinton, 21, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and NYPD officials on Tuesday in South Carolina, said District Attorney Richard Brown.

As of Wednesday morning he was still awaiting extradition to New York, where he will be arraigned on charges of second-degree murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison.

McClinton is accused of shooting D’aja “Asia” Robinson shortly after she got on a Q6 bus near Sutphin Boulevard and Rockaway Boulevard around 9 p.m. on May 18. McClinton allegedly missed his intended target when he fired multiple times into the bus from the sidewalk, and instead struck Robinson in the head, according to the district attorney.

“I hope the capture of Kevin McClinton, the alleged shooter in the Daja Robinson killing, will bring some level of comfort to the victim’s family and renews hope that justice will be served”  said State Senator Malcolm Smith in a statement released Wednesday. “The arrest sends a clear message that gun violence and the use of illegal weapons will not be tolerated. I would like to thank the NYPD for their vigilance and hard work in getting this dangerous individual off the streets of our community.”
