The 109th Precinct Community Council honored its auxiliary officers for their “invaluable service” over the past year at the council’s annual awards ceremony.

The Tuesday, May 29 event kicked off with Deputy Inspector Brian Maguire telling attendees, “We’re here to honor the dedication and work put in by our auxiliary officers.”

He said crime dropped 12 percent last year.

“We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the hours put in by these officers,” Maguire added.

The awards were presented by Community Council President Chrissy Voskerichian, who lauded the “great service” the precinct’s officers were doing.

The first of two awards went to Elizabeth Kim, the Auxiliary Police Officer of the Year.

Richard Oberhaus received the award for Auxiliary Lieutenant of the Year. Oberhaus has been with the precinct for 15 years and served over 300 hours in 2012, according to Maguire.

“It’s great serving this community,” said Oberhaus. “Especially with all the different cultures that are around, it’s that much more rewarding.”

“I want to thank not only you, but your families as well, because the time you spend on the streets of Flushing is time that takes you away from them,” said Voskerichian.
