Msgr D.Joseph Finnerty blesses McCaffrey's coffin.

Former City Councilmember Walter McCaffrey was laid to rest last week with a wake at the Edward Lynch Funeral Home and a horse-drawn procession along Queens Boulevard.

Known for his generosity and effectiveness in office, McCaffrey was 64.

He represented Council District 26, including Woodside, Sunnyside, Long Island City, Astoria and Maspeth, for nearly two decades until he was term-limited out of office in 2001.

At the services were many political figures, including City Council Speaker and mayoral hopeful Christine Quinn, and borough president candidate Melinda Katz.
