A 27-year-old man was critically injured when a livery cab struck him as he was crossing an Astoria intersection Sunday, police said.

The accident occurred about 12:40 a.m. at Steinway Street and 31st Avenue, the NYPD said.

The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in critical condition with head trauma, according to officials.

The driver remained on the scene of the accident.  No criminality is suspected and, according to a preliminary investigation, the victim was crossing against the pedestrian signal, police said. The accident is still under investigation.
