Gaze at the night sky, spend the evening watching an outdoor flick, yoga in the elements and do more at these events around Queens.

SATURDAY, AUG. 22

The Alley Pond Environmental Center invites children ages 5 and 6 to play in their indoor sand table for “Fun in the Sand.” Create beautiful pictures using colored sand, meet live sand-dwelling animals, and enjoy a snack. $18 per child. Chatpati Mela – CHHAYA returns to the Plaza in Travers Park with Chatpati Mela, a community celebration with cultural performances, music, activities for kids and adults, raffles, and South Asian snacks. Yoga in the Elements will help adults find serenity as they practice yoga in nature. Star Searchers – Exploring the Night Sky is an interactive astronomy program for adults and children 9 and up, lead by seasoned professor and astronomer Mark Freilich. The program features an indoor question-and-answer session on basic astronomy, followed by outdoor viewings of stars such as Vega, Albeiro, as well as remnant meteors from the Perseid Meteor shower, and the rings of Saturn and its moon, Titan. Participants are welcome to bring their own telescopes and binoculars, and handout information packets are included. $15 per person. The Alley Pond Park Adventure Course offers free outdoor adventure for ages 8 and up that fosters trust, communication and team building at Alley Pond Park. The program is a two-hour adventure, which includes both low and high elements. The adventure course is open for individuals and small groups of friends and family. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Valid photo identification required. Sneakers required. Free. 9:30 a.m. to noon. Join Urban Park Rangers in a Moderate Nature Exploration Hike, as they guide you the trails of Cunningham Park. Discover plants and animals that inhabit the urban forest on rugged terrain. Bring the entire family to watch “The Incredibles” as the final part of the Central Astoria Movies on the Waterfront series. Everyone will enjoy this film about a family of undercover superheroes who, while trying to live the quiet suburban life, are forced into action to save the world. Queens Theatre is partnering with Lincoln Center Education to present a free outdoor screening of some of the most impactful Lincoln Center performances of the past three years. Celebrate the great voices of Olga Borodina, Marcello Giordani, Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Ailyn Pérez, winner of the 2012 Richard Tucker Award and the first Latina to win a major American opera award. The performances will be projected on a 26-foot screen on the festival site in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, right behind Queens Theatre. In case of inclement weather, the screenings will be held on Queens Theatre’s main stage. Bring your own chair, blanket, picnic, and as many friends as you want!
