A Jackson Heights man was arrested Sunday for driving while intoxicated on a Long Island highway in a car with his family members – including his 14-year-old daughter, according to authorities.
On Sept. 6 the Suffolk Country Highway Patrol observed a 2015 Honda CRV traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 60 in Ronkonkoma with no tail lights and exceeding the speed limit, cops said.
After stopping the car, Patrol Officer Robert Rilling noticed that the driver – 57-year-old Ramon Garcia of Jackson Heights – was intoxicated and the vehicle had members of Garcia’s family including a 14-year-old daughter.
Garcia was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (also known as Leandra’s Law), driving while intoxicated, and endangering the welfare of a child. His daughter was released to other family members.
He was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday and bail was set at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 11.
