Learn the science behind fall, emerge yourself in Taiwanese culture,  go pumpkin picking and do more at these events around Queens.

SATURDAY, OCT. 10

The leaves are changing colors and the air is brisk. Nature is telling us fall is here. Learn the science behind why these changes occur and be introduced to the diverse trees in New York City’s urban forests. With nearly 30,000 acres of public parkland, _New York City is the perfect place for fall leaf-peeping. Bring your camera along for this Fall Foliage Walk of the Great Trees of Kissena Park. SUNDAY, OCT. 11

Emerge yourself in Taiwanese culture at the Hello Taiwan concert showcase and bazaar. Enjoy authentic Taiwanese dishes while you listen to some Taiwanese musical groups. Hear from a local band making major waves in the music scene. All proceeds will go to Taiwan’s “Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation.” Free admission to the bazaar. Concert $10. 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Taiwan Center, 137-44 Northern Blvd. in Flushing. Come view Uranus at its closest approach to Earth while listening to Urban Park Rangers discuss its science, history and folklore. View the blue-green planet fully illuminated by the sun from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Alley Pond Park Adventure Center on Little Neck Bay. For more information call 718-352-1769.

Grab your pumpkins early this fall season at the Onderdonk House Harvest Festival. Join them for a day of live music, entertainment, games, crafts, apple cider making and candle making. The first 500 children get their pumpkins free. Noon to 4 p.m. Adults $4, children free. Onderdonk House on Flushing Avenue in Flushing.

Follow along with visual and literary artist Kameelah Jana as she leads children through her exhibit followed by a ‘zine making workshop inspired by her work. Learn the art of making these handmade books that can be photocopied and shared. The event is free from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Ages 5 to 12. Queens Museum in Flushing Meadows, Corona Park.

MONDAY, OCT. 12

A Better Jamaica invites young adults to a free website building class. Learn software coding and how to work with HTML, CSS and JavaScript as an introduction to the six-week series of Digital Literacy and Building Websites workshops. Watch the story of two sets of twins separated by the stormy seas in this five-borough theater tour by the Mobile Shakespeare Unit. The Northeast Queens Chapter invites you to their Fall Gala fundraising event for the benefit of Friends of Karen. The organization provides vital, practical and comprehensive support to families living in the New York tri-state area who are caring for a child with a life-threatening illness at no cost to them.
