Joe Concannon

City Council candidate Joe Concannon received the endorsement of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani in his quest to win the vacant 23rd District seat in northeast Queens.

Concannon served in the Giuliani administration as the deputy director of public safety.

“I wholeheartedly endorse Joe for City Council because I know, from personal experience, that Joe is hard-working, honest, capable and trustworthy and will make an excellent councilman,” Giuliani said. “He loves Queens and he wants to make New York City a better place to live.”

Concannon said he believed this endorsement would provide the momentum needed to push him into a victory.

“It is an absolute honor to have ‘America’s mayor’ supporting my candidacy for New York City Council,” Concannon said. “Teachers, Sanitation Workers, mom and pop business and people from all walks of life remember the hard work our mayor put in to make New York City great again.”

Concannon is facing off against Democrat Barry Grodenchik to fill the seat that Mark Weprin vacated in June to become Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s deputy secretary of legislative affairs.

City Council District 23 contains all or parts of Bayside Hills, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Fresh Meadows, Glen Oaks, Hollis, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens and Queens Village.

The general election is this Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; the winner of the race will be sworn into office immediately upon certification of the results.
