The Cross Island YMCA will get the holiday season off to a running start with its traditional Turkey Trot 5K on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The event takes place at the Y on 238-10 Hillside Ave. in Bellerose and it is divided in two races. The first one starts at 9 a.m., the second one is a kids’ race starting at 10 a.m.

The Cross Island Y has been organizing programs for kids and adults for more than 52 years making honesty, respect and responsibility its focus points. In particular, the Turkey Trot is part of the Y’s annual campaign that aims to merge together all the Y programs such as preschool, afterschool, health and fitness, and work readiness programs.

“Our Turkey Trot invites people young and old, to be active together, while supporting a community institution they love,” said Dana Feinberg, executive director of the Cross Island Y.

People can sign up for the race by registering online, the same day of the race at 8 a.m. or in person during the race day. Local business are welcome to sponsor the event.

For more information, contact the Cross Island Y at 718-551-9300.
