One man died and another man was critically injured when a car smashed into a cement stanchion on a Woodside roadway on Sunday night, police reported.

Authorities said the accident occurred at 10:32 p.m. at the corner of Laurel Hill Boulevard at 48th Street, below the elevated Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

According to police, Maspeth’s Jorge Bermudez, 30, of 69th Place was driving a 2000 Honda Accord westbound on Laurel Hill Boulevard, with a 30-year-old male sitting in the front passenger seat. While approaching the intersection, Bermudez lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the street and struck the cement piling.

Officers from the 108th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics rushed Bermudez to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 30-year-old passenger was also taken to Elmhurst Hospital and was listed in critical condition.
