After a two-month search, police have arrested and charged a Jamaica man for the murder of his 28-year-old girlfriend who was found dead in a bathtub inside their apartment with burns on her body.

Carlos Leon Pineda, 27, was charged Wednesday with murder, arson, reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence in connection to the death of Miriam Velez-Samayoa.

According to police, on Oct. 17 at about 4:04 a.m. officers responded to a 911 call of a possible assault in progress inside a third floor apartment at 147-28 90th Ave. Upon arriving, police found Velez-Samayoa unconscious and unresponsive with burns on her body.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the 28-year-old dead at the scene. The medical examiner later classified the death as a homicide and police began their search for Leon Pineda.

The 27-year-old is expected to be arraigned on Thursday, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.
