Celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, get to know the humans behind Sesame Street, visit your local Queens Library and do more at these events around Queens.

Saturday, Dec. 12

The Langston Hughes library will be hosting its 31stall-day Kwanzaa celebration! Bring your entire family and enjoy an opening ceremony, film screenings, craft workshops, folk tales and storytelling, as well as live musical performances! 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. The Museum of the Moving Image will be screening “Last Conversations (Ultimas Conversas),” directed by Eduardo Coutinho, as part of its “O Brasil: Contemporary Brazilian Cinema” series. “Last Conversations” is a portrait of teenage life comprised of conversations with young carioca students about their dreams, troubles and desires. This will be the film’s New York premiere. Sunday, Dec. 13

Rego Park Jewish Center will be presenting “A Yiddish Catskills Chanukah,” a concert starring Shane Baker, Miryem Khaye Seigel and Steve Sterner. It’s sure to be an exciting time, with songs and funny sketches as well as the lighting of the eighth Hanukkah candle. Latkes with applesauce will served. 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13. The Oneness-Fountain-Heart Restaurant will be presenting the Heart Dawn Winter Concert. This free concert will feature arrangements of Sri Chinmoy’s beautiful compositions. The Museum of the Moving Image will be hosting a live event called “The Humans of Sesame Street” as part of its “Jim Henson’s World” series. Longtime “Sesame Street” cast members Alison Bartlett, Emilio Delgado, Bob McGrath, Sonia Manzano, Alan Muraoka and Roscoe Orman will be at the event in person. The event will be moderated by Craig Shemin, president of the Jim Henson Legacy. Cast members will meet fans after the presentation, and Sonia Manzano will sign copies of her autobiography, “Becoming Maria,” which will be available for purchase at the Museum Store. The Windsor Park library will be screening “The Age of Adaline,” a film about a woman who has kept to herself for decades to hide the fact that she’s remained 29 years old for more than a century, only to have her secret revealed after meeting a wealthy philanthropist. Mythology uses epic battles, conflicted characters and encounters with strange and powerful creatures to reveal truths about human existence. Joseph Campbell will be giving a lecture at the Astoria library called “Pokemon as Mythic Narrative,” which will explore mythology and the truths that it tells us through the medium of tiny virtual monsters and the real bonds we form with them. 4 to 5:00 p.m. Free.
