Jamaica group launches annual appeal to support arts program

BY SUZANNE MONTEVERDI

The Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL) is asking the community to help continue its mission to make a difference in lives of children through the arts.

For more than 43 years, the JCAL has provided children and their families with affordable, art-based educational programs and workshops.

Last year’s donations enabled the center to offer a variety of programs, including In-School Residencies, School Assembly Arts Programs and Art Center Workshops to thousands of community youths.

“I have been taking classes at JCAL since I was 3 years old,” said Ella, a 12-year-old student. “I cannot wait for Saturday to come around each week. I have been able to explore ceramics, dancing, acting, singing and cartooning.”

All donations are tax-deductible and any amount given helps the center connect more children to arts programming that inspires.

A donation of $100 supports one child for a six-week arts class, and a $250 donation provides one school class with an in-school arts workshop.

This year, the center calls upon the community to help its students reach their creative potential and #GIVE2JCAL. Visit jcal.org and click the “Donate” tab to make a worthwhile contribution.
