Do you love to write? Is poetry your passion? Are you looking for an outlet to showcase some of your best work? Or maybe you’re a poet and you don’t even know it! It’s time to flex those poetry muscles because Queens Library is hosting a Summer Poetry Contest! Queens Library is looking for you to blow them away with your prose and impress them with your flow for a chance to see your name and poem in print!

That’s right — winners of the Queens Library Poetry Contest will have the opportunity to have their poem featured in the Queens Library Magazine!

This year’s theme for the contest is Get in the Game. Categories for the poetry contest are as follows:

Grades 4-5

Grades 6-8

Grades 9-12

Post high school/adult 19 or older

Each category will have one winner and three honorable mentions. All winners will be published in the Queens Library Magazine, and all winners and honorable mentions will have the opportunity to read their poem at the award ceremony. Entries will be accepted between June 2, 2016, and July 31, 2016. There is absolutely no limit to your creativity, except when it comes to word count. Please keep submissions under 250 words (excluding the title). Winners of the contest will be determined by a panel of judges.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to get those creative juices flowing and unlock your inner Shakespeare, Dickinson or Poe (or whichever poet inspires you the most)! Queens Library is looking forward to reading all of your submissions.
