A Manhattan man has been charged with allegedly hurling an elderly man down a flight of stairs at a Long Island City subway station last week, police announced on Monday night.
Detectives took into custody Jerome Blakely, 44, for the assault that took place at 1:30 p.m. on July 6 inside the 36th Street subway station in the vicinity of Northern Boulevard and 38th Avenue on the M and R lines.
According to authorities, Blakely allegedly walked up to the 69-year-old male victim and pushed him down a stairway.
No words were exchanged between the suspect and victim before or after the attack, police noted. After pushing the man, Blakely exited the station on street level and fled in an unknown direction.
Paramedics brought the victim to Mt. Sinai Queens Hospital for treatment of a fractured knee; he was listed in stable condition.
The NYPD released video of the suspect identified as Blakely inside the 36th Street station. Following his arrest on Monday, Blakely was charged with second-degree assault.
