A hard hat bandit is wanted by police after a poorly constructed bank robbery in St. Albans Wednesday.

The construction crook, who looks like a stand-in for the 1970’s disco group “The Village People,” walked into Carver Federal Savings Bank on 115-02 Merrick Boulevard around 3:22 p.m. He approached the bank teller and passed a note demanding money. While the teller walked away from the man, the bandit left the financial institution empty-handed.

Police described the man as black, 25-year-old, weighing 170 pounds, standing at 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with dreadlocks. The thief was last seen wearing a yellow hard hat, an orange vest and blue jeans.

Police are asking anyone with information in regards to this incident to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
