Gunman speaks with victim, then shoots him dead on a Flushing street, cops say

Detectives are searching for the suspect who engaged a 50-year-old man into a conversation before fatally shooting him in the head on a Flushing street late on Wednesday night.

Authorities said the shooting occurred at 11:58 p.m. on July 27 in the vicinity of 35th Avenue and Farrington Street.

According to police, the victim — 50-year-old Richard Brown of Hempstead, Long Island — got into a conversation with the gunman, who is described as a black male with a light complexion. It is not known if Brown and the gunman were known to each other.

When Brown looked to the ground momentarily, sources familiar with the investigation said, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Brown once in the head. The perpetrator was last observed fleeing on a motorcycle.

Officers from the 109th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics rushed Brown to NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
