After security camera footage and a sketch was released, the man wanted for luring a 10-year-old girl into his car in Richmond Hill has been arrested, police announced on Friday, Aug. 5.

According to officers, Shawn D. Sunders, 28, of 133rd Street in South Ozone Park has been arrested for the July 27 snatching of the young girl who was on her way to school.

Sunders has been charged with luring a child to commit a crime, sexual abuse, and acting in a manner injurious to a child, cops said.

According to police, Sunders pulled up to the girl inside his gray Acura on the morning of July 27 and — feigning being a family friend — offered the girl a ride to school. The girl’s grandfather saw the interaction, but was unable to get to the vehicle before Sunders drove off.

It was reported that the girl was later dropped off at the corner of Jamaica Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard in Woodhaven. She then went into her school and alerted school officials of what happened, who then reached out to her family and the 102nd Precinct.
