Catch a wave with Lava Girl.

This interestingly named cultural group will present the NYC Women’s Surf Film Festival this Friday through Sunday at Rockaway Beach Surf Club (302 Beach 87th St., Rockaway Beach.)

The fourth annual celebration will focus on women who love to surf and filmmakers who capture their feats on camera. Attendees will be able to check out a photography show, two full-length movies, and a variety of shorts from established as well as emerging directors from around the world followed by Q&A sessions.

The fun will start with a pre-festival party on Friday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. The filmmakers and a few notable surfers will be on hand to chat, while renowned Australian ocean photographer Fran Miller will display her work. Various shorts will screen, and fish tacos ($3.50) and fresh coconut juice ($5) will be on the menu.

Saturday’s session will begin at 7 p.m. with tacos and cocktails. Then the filmmakers will address the audience before showing two features – “It Ain’t Pretty” and “Women and the Waves 2” – as well as more shorts.

The final activity, starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, will be a surf session with filmmakers and some notable board riders, including Erin “Worm” Ashley and Mele Saili.

This festival’s organizer is Davina Grincevicius, who grew up in Australia, but moved to Rockaway Beach about eight years ago. She co-founded Lava Girl Surf.
