Police are now offering a substantial reward to anyone who can help them find the person who killed a businesswoman and aunt of a New York Cop in Jamaica Hills earlier this week.

Nazma Khanam, 60, of 161st Street was fatally stabbed in the torso while walking with her husband in front of a home on Normal Road between 160th and 161st streets at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night, published reports noted.

Officers from the 107th Precinct and EMS units responded to the location after receiving a 911 call about an assault at the location. Khanam was brought to Jamaica Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The NYPD Muslim Officers Society tweeted early on Thursday morning that Khanam was the aunt of P.O. Humayun Kabir, an officer assigned to NYPD Transit Division 2.

The Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) New York chapter has called on police to investigate the murder as a possible hate crime, according to WCBS-TV. The murder occurred weeks after an Ozone Park imam and an assistant were gunned down in Ozone Park shortly after they had left afternoon prayers at a mosque. A suspect in the shooting has since been arrested.

The motive remains under investigation, and all possible leads are being considered, law enforcement sources said. Late on Thursday, the NYPD released security camera footage of a person of interest wanted in connection with the homicide.

On Friday afternoon, police announced that a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s)s responsible for killing Khanam. This includes $7,500 from the NYPD and $2,500 from the Crime Stoppers hotline.

Anyone with information regarding the murder or the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, visit their website or send a text message to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
