Cops are searching for a group of scammers that swindled a 61-year-old woman from Maspeth out of $10,000 in July.

According to police, on Saturday, July 30, the victim received a phone call from a female suspect at approximately 3:59 p.m. The suspect posed as one of the victim’s daughters, crying hysterically and claiming she was in distress.

At that time, cops said, another female suspect then spoke to the victim and posed as the daughter’s friend, fabricating a story that she let her daughter borrow a large sum of money and needed the money right away to pay for her mother-in-law’s funeral. The victim agreed to pay back some of the money that the suspect claimed she loaned to the victim’s daughter.

A short while later, a male suspect arrived at the victim’s home in the vicinity of 61st Street and 59th Drive in Maspeth, and collected $10,000 from the victim, law enforcement agents said. The male suspect and another female then fled into a red two door coupe.

Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the grand larceny.

A video of the suspects can be seen here.

The first suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, standing between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches, with facial hair; last seen wearing a pink t-shirt, light colored shorts and white sneakers.

The second individual has been described as a white female, last seen wearing a white top and dark colored pants.

A third unknown suspect was driving the vehicle. The vehicle is described as a red Ford Mustang.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website, or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

All calls will be strictly confidential.
