Grab a friend or loved one and celebrate the “supermoon” at a park in Douglaston this Sunday!

Discuss science, history and the folklore of the universe at a special supermoon edition of the astronomy workshop at Alley Pond Park Adventure Center on Oct. 16.

The supermoon — also known as the perigee moon —  occurs when the full moon of a given month coincides with the time the moon’s orbit brings it closest to Earth, causing the moon to appear bigger and brighter.

Urban Park Rangers will be circulating, serving as the night’s guide to the solar system. Feel free to use on-site binoculars and telescopes to get an up-close and personal look at the moon and stars.

The event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the adventure center within Alley Pond Park, located at 69-70 230th St. For more information, call 212-639-9675 or visit their website.
