Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer is hosting a forum this Wednesday night for western Queens residents who want to aid community members who have felt personally targeted during this election.

Community Speak Out will be held on Nov. 16 at Sunnyside Community Services from 6 to 8 p.m. The community center is located at 43-31 39th St.

“We’ve had a lot of people in the past couple of days call and come to our office asking how they can be more involved in the community in particular in organizations that help those that have been targeted in the election cycle,” Arielle Swernoff, spokesperson for Van Bramer said. “So the idea is to bring all these community members together with organizations that exist in Queens and New York City that are doing a lot of this important work.”

The list of organizations is not yet finalized but they include Planned Parenthood, Catholic Migration Services, Jacob Riis Center, Woodside on the Move, Emerald Isle Immigration Center and Queens Library.

“This has been an emotional and trying week, and many of us are rightly feeling anxious, angry, and afraid,” Van Bramer said in a statement. “But together, we will channel these emotions into organizing, action, and empowerment. We will come together as a community to share and exchange ideas for moving forward. We will also have representatives from dozens of organizations that stand up for women, immigrants, Muslims, LGBTQ individuals and all targets of hate. We can all find a way to get involved.”

The councilman will also host a Day of Action on Nov. 19. The time and location has not been finalized but following the event on Wednesday, several steps will be proposed to support these organizations and the most vulnerable people in Queens.

To RSVP to the event, contact Elana Ehrenberg at eehrenberg@council.nyc.gov or call 718-383-9566.
