Assemblymember Braunstein and students from Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside deliver gifts to veterans.

That’s a wrap on a massive holiday toy drive led by a local lawmaker.

Assemblymember Edward Braunstein announced on Thursday he received an unprecedented number of donations through his sixth annual toy and veteran gift drive.

Thousands of toys were donated by civic and senior organizations, churches, 20 schools and dozens of local residents and given to needy or sick children, along with hundreds of donated toiletries, candy, clothing items, playing cards and puzzles for veterans.

All donations to the gift drive were delivered to the St. Albans VA Community Living Center and the New York State Veterans Home at St. Albans on Dec. 21 by Braunstein, his staff and students from Benjamin N. Cardozo High School.

Toys were given to a variety of institutions and charitable programs, including QSAC Day School of Whitestone, St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside and the Ronald McDonald House.

“I was overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of my constituents who helped bring holiday cheer to those in need,” Braunstein said. “I want to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to our community for continuing to make these gift drives such a success. Since we received so many donations, we were able to bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of hospitalized veterans, as well as thousands of needy children this holiday season.”

A full list of donors and gift recipients can be seen here.
