You’ll need a marching-and-munching strategy for this event.

Thirty-one restaurants and nine other stores will offer samples of their signature products to an expected 2,500 patrons during the Taste of Rockaway Beach on Saturday, May 6, from noon to 6 p.m.

All the participating businesses are located within a roughly 12-block area, and visitors will simply purchase a day pass for $20 (or $15 in advance) and then walk, bike, drive, or maybe roll from venue to venue, consuming as they like. And as to be expected in the world’s most diverse county, various cuisines – including Central Asian, Chinese, Mexican, Moroccan, and Thai — will be served.

Establishments such as Rockaway Brewing Company, Sayra’s Wine Bar, and Rockaway Roasters will serve beverages, while PollynAnna Boutique and The Swellife Fashion Truck will offer clothes. Even Rockaway Beach Veterinary Services and Zingara Vintage will get involved.

To add spice to the fun, FDNY Engine Company 266 will host a Fire Safety afternoon in the vicinity of Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 94th Street. Some top FDNY chefs will be on site, cooking food for passers-by. And to add extra spice, this is the first major festivity since NYC Ferry started service to the Rockaways from Manhattan on May 1.

This food crawl is organized by Rockaway Union, a coalition that promotes commerce between Beach 59th and Beach 114th streets. This nonprofit resulted from a merger with HEART (the Hospitality and Entertainment Association for Restaurants and Taverns) and the Rockaway Beach Merchant Association in 2014.

Here is a complete participant list for Saturday: 101 Deli; A + A Chinese Cuisine; Beach Bistro 96; Bungalow Bar & Restaurant; Chicks To Go; Ciro’s Bakery & Pastry Shop; Coastal Frozen Yogurt; Community House; CROM Physical Culture; Cuisine by Claudette; Elegante Pizza; Goody’s; Liquid Bread; Off Season; Pico’s; PollynAnna Boutique; Rippers; Rockaway Beach Bakery; Rockaway Beach Golf Club (after 4 p.m.); Rockaway Beach Veterinary Services; Rockaway Brewing Company; Rockaway Love; Rockaway Roasters; Sayra’s Wine Bar; Ship To Shore Wine Shop; Station RBNY; Surfside Bagels; Thai Rock; The Fat Cardinal Bakery; The Rock; The Swellife Fashion Truck; Uma’s; Uncle Louie G; and Zingara Vintage.
