A firefighter scales the ladder during a three-alarm fire at a Middle Village garage on July 2.

Fire marshals are still looking into what caused a three-alarm blaze that broke out inside a closed auto body shop in Middle Village on Sunday night.

According to Fire Department sources, the inferno ignited at about 9:17 p.m. on July 2 inside the Metro Alignment and Steering garage located at 62-01 Metropolitan Ave., near 62nd Street. Sources said the fire broke through the roof of the one-story building and spread to an adjoining structure.

More than 140 firefighters arrived on the scene along with the 104th Precinct and EMS units. In an email to QNS on Monday afternoon, the Fire Department said that three firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control at about 11:44 p.m. Sunday night. The cause is unknown and under investigation.
