Suspect who stabbed a man at random on a Corona street was off his meds, cops say

Police have arrested a mentally unstable Corona man who stabbed a stranger while he was off of his medication.

On Thursday, June 29 at 10:20 p.m., Steven Ponce, 30, of 104th Street approached a 30-year-old man in front of 37-68 104th St. Ponce then proceeded to stab the victim multiple times in the back ,torso, neck and arms.

The victim was transported to Elmhurst Hospital and is in stable condition.

On Saturday, July 1, Ponce was arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.

According to police, Ponce suffers from schizophrenia and was apparently off of his medication at the time of the attack.
