A contractor from Corona died on Thursday morning after falling 29 floors from the unfinished luxury apartment building in Lower Manhattan where he worked, it was reported.

Juan Chohillo, 43, of 50th Avenue had been working at the site of 1 Seaport, a luxury apartment tower being erected at 161 Maiden Lane, according to WABC-TV.

According to the report, Chohillo and several workers were attempting to loosen a tight cable on a crane at about 9:05 a.m. on Sept. 21 when the cable suddenly struck him, sending him plunging 29 floors.

Officers from the 1st Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene and found Chohillo with severe body trauma on a second-floor landing. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, and his body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The tragedy occurred just a day after the Department of Buildings (DOB) issued a partial stop work order at the site due to “possible unsafe crane operation.” The building site also racked up nine Environmental Control Board (ECB) violations since January of this year, four of which remain open, according to the DOB database.

The investigation is ongoing.
