A 51-year-old man will be spending the next 21 years in prison for brutally murdering of his wife on the streets of Ozone Park last December.

Prem Rampersaud, 51, who lives in Guyana and was temporarily residing with a friend on 116th Drive in Jamaica, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter this past July. On Tuesday, Sept. 19, Rampersaud was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison.

According to charges, Rampersaud got into an argument with the victim, Rajwantie Baldeo, 46, after she left work at an Ozone Park restaurant shortly after midnight on Dec. 5, 2016. During the argument, Rampersaud pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed Baldeo throughout her body.

Baldeo was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to published reports, witnesses saw Rampersaud kneeling over the Baldeo’s body, making sawing motions with a knife across the victim’s neck. Witnesses said that it sounded like he was cutting through the victim’s bone.
