Halloween is right around the corner, and this Astoria house is back again with a can’t-miss Halloween display.

Vicky Poumpouridis has been building an impressive collection of Halloween decorations for years. Every year, her home, located at 22-13 26th St., provides a spectacular display that has many rushing to her home throughout the Halloween season.

Poumpouridis has spent years collecting and curating her spooky decorations. Although she started early in the decorating process this year, the decorating process took many hours with help of family, friends and neighbors.

“We started decorating early this year, but it took forever to get everything up,” Poumpouridis said. “Pretty much every weekend in October. It took a lot of teamwork, including from the amazing Amy Hsieh Wu and her equally amazing husband, Ed, who were instrumental in setting up the lights and figures; my sister, who put up the inflatables; and my neighbor, who turns the lights on when I am at work and keeps me updated on the weather!”

This year’s display is worth the effort. This year, a brand-new animatronic Freddy Kruger takes the main stage for the spooktacular decorations, waiting for trick-or-treaters to take a step onto the property.

As her collection grows, many from the community look forward to seeing what what Poumpouridis has up her sleeve for her yearly display.

“The response is overwhelming and very positive,” Poumpouridis said. “People are excited to see it all, and constantly stop to chat and pose with the decorations. They are repeat visitors who wait for the display every year and notice [or] comment on what’s new or different.”

For those who are looking to set up your own spectacular spooky display, Poumpouridis suggests starting slow.

“Buy things slowly and build up your collection,” said Poumpourdis. “There are always new items coming on the market, and there’s only so much space in your yard!”
