Here’s looking at you, kid.
“Casablanca,” one of the greatest and most quotable films ever made, turns 75 years old next month. The College Point Multiplex is one of hundreds of theaters nationwide that will screen the film to mark the occasion.
The 1942 wartime drama starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains and Paul Henreid will be shown at the Multiplex at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Tickets are on sale through Fathom Events.
It’s part of the TCM (Turner Classic Movies) Big Screen Classics series showcasing some of cinema’s greatest pictures along with their unique history.
“Casablanca” tells the tale of Rick Blaine, an American cafe owner in Morocco who comes to a moment of truth when his former lover Ilsa arrives with her husband, Victor Laszlo, a leader of the French Resistance during World War II. Laszlo wants to get back to the fight in Europe, and Blaine must choose between the war and his unrequited love for Isla.
Directed by Michael Curtiz, the film is consistently ranked among the greatest movies ever produced. The script is replete with classic lines, such as “We’ll always have Paris,” “Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine,” “Round up the usual suspects,” and “Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”
