A new Taco Bell opened in Corona.

A brand-new Taco Bell location opened in Corona today, kicking off the chain’s plan to expand to 50 locations across the five boroughs by 2022.

The new spot opens at 11 a.m. at 38-01 Junction Blvd., according to Taco Bell spokesperson Regina Wu. It will feature an open kitchen so customers can see the food as its being made, shareable menu items like nachos and the space will be decorated with works by local artists.

Taco Bell primary focused on opening stores in more suburban neighborhoods where there is room to construct drive-thru windows. But they are changing their approach and plan to open 300 to 350 new locations in urban areas throughout the country.

These locations will be smaller and many will be Taco Bell Cantina locations, which means they will serve alcohol. Corona will not be a Cantina location.

Taco Bell’s chief operating officer Mike Grams told Eater that the company may also experiment with menus to reflect city tastes.

“We’re not locked into it has to be a taco or a burrito,” Grams told Eater. “This brand more than any other isn’t afraid to try new things.”
