The Kiwanis Club of Glendale will hold a Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 10.

The holidays are twice as nice in Glendale starting this weekend, as the community will play host to two Christmas celebrations.

On Saturday morning, Dec. 9, Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley along with the Ridgewood-Glendale-Middle Village Lions Club will hold a Christmas celebration from 10 to 11 a.m. at Fred Haller Jr. Triangle, located at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Union Turnpike.

The festivities include the usual seasonal celebrations, such as visit from Santa Claus and hot cocoa and candy canes for all attendees.

During the program, members of Engine Company 286/Ladder Company 135 will hold a special dedication in memory of Firefighter William Tolley, a Ladder 135 member who died in April while responding to a fire in Ridgewood. Glendale residents have kept Tolley’s memory alive all year while offering support for the firehouse on Myrtle Avenue where he worked.

Crowley additionally sponsored legislation to have 66th Place between Myrtle and Cooper avenues in Glendale renamed in Tolley’s honor. Mayor Bill de Blasio signed that bill in October.

Then on Sunday, Dec. 10, the Kiwanis Club of Glendale will light up the neighborhood with a Christmas tree lighting ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m. The fun takes place at the Glendale Memorial Triangle, located at the corner of Myrtle and Cooper avenues.

Members of the Joe Fuoco Music Center will perform traditional holiday favorites, and guests will be treated to hot chocolate courtesy of Dunkin’ Donuts. The East Coast Car Association will also be driving Santa Claus into town to greet the kids and provide them with gifts.
