Discovered only blocks away from the crime scene, a Whitestone man was apprehended on March 1 an hour after he allegedly robbed a Chinese restaurant in Bayside at knifepoint.

Christopher Weiss, 27, of 166th Street was arrested and charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property, according to police.

On March 1 at around 1:20 p.m., the suspect entered the Great Wall Restaurant at 200th Street and 32nd Avenue, brandished a knife and demanded an employee open the cash register. Weiss grabbed $180 in cash and fled the scene in a car.

However, about an hour later, officers from the 111th Precinct observed Weiss in his vehicle on 28th Avenue and 202 Street. After a car stop, they identified him as the perpetrator and arrested him at the scene.

There were no reported injuries in the incident, law enforcement sources noted.
