A Brooklyn man has turned himself in for fatally shooting a man at the Baisley Park Houses in South Jamaica earlier this month, and now faces life in prison.
On May 22, police arrested Walter Ware, 46, after he turned himself in to authorities. At this time, police say that the shooting appears to be drug related.
Ware was arraigned on charges of second degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was ordered to be held without bail and is due to return to court on May 24.
If convicted, Ware faces 25 years to life in prison.
At 1:59 a.m. on May 16, police responded to a 911 call regarding shots fired inside of 116-80 Guy R. Brewer Blvd.
Upon their arrival, officers found 41-year-old Raymond Rue, a resident of the Baisley Park Houses, unconscious and unresponsive in the second floor hallway, with a gunshot wound to his head.
EMS responded to the scene and declared Rue dead upon arrival.
According to the District Attorney Richard A. Brown, surveillance video shows Ware raising a firearm toward Rue’s head and firing at least one shot.
“This is another senseless act of gun violence in our community,” said District Attorney Brown. “The defendant in this case is charged with shooting a 41-year-old man in the hallway of the apartment in which he lived. This kind of brutality will not be tolerated. The defendant now faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars.”
