From Homeless To Med School

Seventeen-year-old Emanuelle Martin of Queens overcame a broken family and homelessness last year and emerged unscathed and then won acceptance to medical school.
Her strength of character and intelligence earned her the right to attend Sophie Davis Medical School in Manhattan, one of the academic jewels in the CUNY system.
She summed it up best herself:
"My life has been a whirlwind of crises. It’s been like hitchhiking into a sea of strangers."
Her supporters were many including the Bridge to Medicine Program she joined during her senior year at Richmond Hill High School.
Emanuelle’s is surely a triumph of the spirit.
