LaGuardia feted for 60th,

By Adam Kramer

On a cold blustery Dec. 2, 1939, LaGuardia Airport opened its doors to air traffic when a TWA DC-3 en route from Chicago touched down at the Queens Airport six weeks after its dedication.

It was as if a cyclone had hit New York with wind and rain lashing the city, recalled Michael Katen, who was on the first flight that landed at LaGuardia, and the featured guest at the 60th anniversary celebration last Thursday.
