Rego Park men duped contractors: DA

By Michelle Han

Two Rego Park residents were arrested last week on charges that they falsely represented themselves as engineers and architects to contractors of at least five construction projects in Richmond Hill, Elmhurst, Corona and Jackson Heights, the Queens district attorney said.

The two defendants, Tibor Cszmadia, 66, and Andras Krasznoi, 56, of 66-92 Selfridge St. in Rego Park, served as consultants for builders and contractors seeking permits and approvals from the City Buildings Department, according to the DA.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said the two men illegally certified new construction projects and renovations for hundreds of other building projects using the engineering stamp of a licensed professional engineer named Manjit Uberoi and the notary stamp of Maria Pereira.

It is alleged that both the engineering stamp and signatures were forged.

The city Buildings Department is contacting by letter 250 owners or contractors whose plans may have been falsely certified as sound, officials said.
